Today Josie A Kerr visited us. She read us one of her poems and she gave us a signed copy of one her poems. We asked her lots of questions. Some of us even read a poem to her.

Introduction: “Good morning Ms Farrer-Stevens, boys and girls. Today I will be reading my poem Beach Community.”

 

Body: Read your poem

 

Conclusion: “Thank you for listening.”

 

Checklist:

eye contact – maintain as much eye contact as possible (learn some of the poem off by heart)

tone – match the tone of your voice to express the mood of the poem

pace – control the pace of your speech – not too fast, not too slow

volume – speak at a volume that the back of the room can hear

rhythm – read with rhythm (beat) to keep the audience interested

pitch – vary the pitch of your voice – use high and low sounds where needed, especially when reading onomatopoeia

use gestures

stance– stand up straight

 

Read your poem at home. Remember to bring the poem to school each day so you can read it at school too.
